♦ Player Info
Name: your name. :D
Age: anyone under 15 will NOT be accepted.
Journal: your journal.
Contact: preferably AIM or MSN.
Anything else: for example, if you are a non-US resident, you should probably let us know, because of time differences, etc.

♦ Character Info
Character Name: their name.
Fandom: anime/manga, comics, video games, movies, and television are acceptable. no webcomics or books.
Gender: male or female. specify if other.
Age: if you don't know, make a guess based on their appearance.
Canon Background: A link to a non-biased, informative source is recommended, so that the mods can get the basic outline of your character's canon. If you want to write a background yourself, please keep it brief to avoid it being longer than your AU (which is much more important.)
AU Background: should be longer than above, and a lot more eloquent. this also needs to be relatively accurate for this time period! you should not mention any inventions, technology, or events that took place after the year 1800. be sure to include their reasons or motivations for traveling to the Chiaro. also, please, PLEASE remember to keep their canon personality intact!
Personality: A brief overview, about 1-2 paragraphs, of your character's personality. Based on this, the mods should know your interpretation of their inner thoughts and actions and will tie this in with your 1st-person sample.
Country of Origin: indicate what country your character comes from. preferably a European/Mediterranean country, like Italy, Greece, or France. we will allow Asian characters as well, as long as their background ties in with European lifestyle. however, since this IS an AU rpg, it's a little more fun to tweak their history a bit. ;D
Musical Instrument: your character is first given a classical instrument when they arrive at the Chiaro. they can either be new to playing, or an experienced musician.
Third-Person (Log) Sample: logs should be at least 150 words, past tense, and must be in GOOD english. they should be in-character, with as much of your character's voice shown as possible. also, check your spelling and grammar, because the mod is a bit of a spelling nazi. ♥
First-Person Sample: this sample should be the deciding factor on whether or not you understand your character's voice. there is a small questionnaire that comes with the invitation to to the Albergo Chiaro.

Who are you?
Is there a God?
What is knowledge?
What is truth?
Is there such a thing as "good and evil"?

Fill it out, according to your character's interpretation of the philosophical questions. But remember, not all characters would be willing to give straight answers! ;)

Here is the application form:

After you're done filling it out, please reply to this post and wait 1-2 days for a mod's response!
Please remember to have read the RULES, MORE INFO, and FAQ POST before you apply! ♥

And remember: the most important parts of the application are the AU Background, Personality, and First-Person Sample sections, so be sure to do your best on those!

♦ Character Info
Character Name: Ema Skye
Fandom: Ace Attorney/Gyakuten Saiban
Gender: Female
Age: 25
Canon Background: Wiki get!
AU Background:
Ema was born relatively wealthy into an aristocratic family, growing up in the south of France in a big house on the sea. She doesn't remember much about her family, however, because both of her parents died of pneumonia when she was at a very young age. For the rest of her life she has relied on her older sister Lana to take care of her, raising her off of their inheritance. They lived a comfortable life, having the luxuries of school and tutoring that not many girls of the time period were able to get.

Ema became highly interested in the new scientific developments coming from Paris, London, and various other intellectual cities. Since she was a teenager, she has pursued a career in the newly-developed fields of chemistry and biology. However, since there are not many established jobs associated with them, she is content with working as a lead investigative detective for the Parisian police force for now. Thanks to her social status, Ema is acquainted with many influential scientists and scholars, and is eager to become an apprentice to one of them.

Once she got the letter from Signor Fiorentino, she jumped at the chance to meet the renowned man that she had previously only read about in books. Ema arrived a month before the grand opening, eager to get settled in and ready for classes. She has extensive knowledge of the places and people on the island and will be ready to help newcomers out whenever possible.

Personality:
Ema is an empiricist, and therefore percieves everything around her with an entirely sensory and scientific approach. She enjoys the investigation stages of her job, jumping at every opportunity to examine crime scenes with her most recent scientific equipment. Ema is a generally agreeable person, except in instances in which she feels she is being mocked or judged. She is often seen eating her favorite food, a crunchy snack that is most likely a foreign delicacy; except for the fact that Ema seems to carry an endless supply of this mysterious food, not much else is known about it.

SAMPLE application. part deux.
[info]empirique
2008-11-22 06:06 pm UTC (link)
Country of Origin: France
Musical Instrument: Clarinet
Third-Person (Log) Sample:
Ema frowned up at the old marble building, at the clear blinking windows above, blinding her with their silly lights. So unnecessary.

She fished around in her coat pocket for her specially-made glasses; she was glad that they made the trip. Glasses were expensive, especially her tinted ones. (She hadn't seen another pair like hers yet, to be honest. Glasses were, of course, reserved for the elite scholars.) Mr. Scarlett would not be pleased if she had broken them.

Sighing, she surveyed her surroundings. The Mediterranean, as blue and clear as it always had been. She remembered the smell of this sea from her childhood, the fragrant breeze that tickled her skin and ruffled her hair.

This trip had better be as "enlightening" as the letter had described. She had taken a leave of absence in Paris to come here, and was a bit miffed that as soon as she left, a serial killer had gone on the loose in her home city. She had to sacrifice using her new investigative equipment to be here, after all.

First-Person Sample:

Who are you? Ema Skye.
Is there a God? Scientifically speaking... I can't say for sure.
What is knowledge? When you know the science behind everything! Knowledge is what takes us out of the dark ages.
What is truth? The results of rigorous and careful experimentation, of course.
Is there such a thing as "good and evil"? Yes. And evil people need to be brought to justice.

♦ Character Info
Character Name: Apollo Justice
Fandom: Ace Attorney
Gender: Male
Age: 22
Canon Background:Profile: Apollo Justice
AU Background:
Apollo was raised in a middle-class home in England, sent to school every day, and greatly enjoyed it. His life wasn't really very noteworthy: it wasn't tragic, or too good to be true. It was just a reasonably comfortable life. He managed to stay out of the wars England was so fond of engaging in mostly by luck and his cynicism: he just couldn't get behind the whole 'die for your country' attitude, making him a little unusual for his time, and instead of dedicating his life to dying he decided to dedicate it to the Law. He'd heard it paid well, but that wasn't the only reason: something greatly appealed to him about the idea of discovering the truth, defending the innocent, and ensuring justice was delivered. Besides, considering his last name, he couldn't really be anything else.

He went to Oxford University, something his parents were very proud of, and he got his degree. He was planning on staying on at the University for a little longer, as he liked it there and it had a brilliant library, but instead, he received an invitation from Signor Fiorentino to join him at the exclusive school on his island, and such a thing is not to be turned down. And so, Apollo left England on the first available ship, eager to see the wonders of the Albergo Chiaro.

Apollo is unaware of the fact he is not actually his parents' son. He is (mun permitting if ever we get a Thalassa) the son of Thalassa Grammarye, a traveller, who was given to the lovely English couple who had been unable to conceive their own child upon the death of Thalassa's husband. Apollo has absolutely no idea about any of this. With his Grammarye blood comes an interesting talent: he's rather good at telling when people are lying. How good can be decided by the mods. In the Apollo Justice game, it works thusly: people tense when they're lying, and Apollo subconsciously tenses as well. This causes him to feel the bracelet on his wrist tighten, and so he knows to look closely at the person and look for their nervous ticks or tells. If this skill is to be downplayed in the game, it could easily be that Apollo doesn't pick up on good liars.
Personality:
Apollo is an intelligent young man with a great amount of interest for the ongoing scientific developments. He's reasonably polite, and keeps his cynical and snide comments (of which there are sometimes quite a few) inside his own head. He has been known to panic when under pressure; to work out if he is doing so, simply count the number of times he manages to fit the word 'fine' into his sentence.

He has a great amount of reverence for Truth, Law, and Justice, which he sees as more than just ideas but very real forces, and it is the duty of a lawyer to ensure these three things are protected and honoured. It's not something he notices consciously, but anyone who attempts to discuss these subjects with him certainly will notice his passion for them.

He's also really loud. He is proud of his Chords of Steel.
Country of Origin: Merry old England
Musical Instrument: Trumpet!! Because Apollo loev being loud.

Third-Person (Log) Sample:
Apollo was very glad to be off the boat. The sea, he had decided, was certainly not for him. It was just too unstable. He definitely wasn't cut out for a life of travelling, which had been quite a popular notion back home. No, Apollo was definitely more suited to courtrooms and libraries, where the ground didn't keep moving like that. He hadn't thought he would discover anything he disliked more than heights. He had been quite wrong.

Apollo picked up his bag and carefully readjusted his books under his arm before he began making his way to the hotel. He'd heard rumours of its magnificence, though doubted the bit about the talking stone lions was true. Or the walking furniture. Or the abandoned villa nearby. People tended to believe all sorts of things, but not Apollo. Apollo believed in evidence.

He squinted. It would be a lot easier to see the magnificent hotel if the sun wasn't so bright. Apollo, having been raised in England, was already sweating with the heat from the Mediterranean sun. However, he was sure the sun shouldn't quite be this bright. It was almost as if it was reflecting off something...

He stopped. He stared.

The building was made entirely of glass.
First-Person Sample:

Who are you? Apollo Justice!
Is there a God? ... Uh. I'm not really sure. I suppose there should be, considering how many people spend time worshipping him, but on the other hand some things happen in this world that almost say there isn't one. So I can't be sure one way or the other. I guess if you believe there is a God, there is to you, and as long as you're not hurting anyone else, you can believe what you want.
What is knowledge? 'Knowledge' is more than simply knowing a lot of things. It's something you achieve through understanding, study, and a lot of hard work.
What is truth? Truth is.
Is there such a thing as "good and evil"? I think it would be more accurate to say that there is 'right and wrong'. Sometimes people do wrong things in the name of right, but the end rarely justifies the means. It is up to lawyers to bring wrongdoers to justice.

♦ Character Info
Character Name: Kazuki Hihara
Fandom: La Corda d’Oro
Gender: Male
Age: 18
Canon Background: Here’s the wikipedia article. Small fandom is small, though, and it’s about as eloquent as a 2x4 to the face. If you need elaboration, I’d be happy to oblige!

AU Background: Kazuki grew up fairly normally for a boy in Italy, his family wasn’t particularly prestigious, nor were they rich by any stretch of the imagination. Not to say that they were poor, they got along well enough, just that they were average for the artisan class.

His father owned a business crafting instruments, brass instruments in particular, that he had inherited from his father, and he from his, and et cetera. As a boy, Kazuki mainly spent his time doing boy-things, while also learning the trade from his father. He also had an older brother, Haruki, and they always got on quite well.

When he was around ten years old, he received a trumpet from his father, so he could learn to play. Kazuki instantly fell in love with the instrument. Whether it was because he had grown up listening to it, or for the freeing feeling he had when he played, he began to spend whatever free time he had practicing it. And as anyone would with diligent effort, he soon became quite good.

He loved playing for others, but mostly kept his audience limited to his family and friends, or occasionally played around the village during festivities. His kind and outgoing personality made him a favorite among the villagers, and he often did small favors when he was needed, even without promise of reward.

Kazuki never received any formal schooling, as his family couldn’t afford it, but learned to read and write from his mother, and the basic arithmetic needed to conduct business. He was also raised catholic, common in Italy, and attends mass every Sunday, as well as making the occasional trip to the confession booth.

When he received his invitation to Albergo Chiaro, he was properly baffled, as his playing shouldn’t really have been known outside of his village, and he did not have a proper education. Unsure, he consulted his family, who all encouraged him to go. Such an opportunity shouldn’t be passed up! Excited, but somewhat reluctant, Kazuki packed his bags and made way for his new life.

[info]themodestotter
2008-11-25 03:58 am UTC (link)
Personality: Kazuki is incredibly kind-hearted and outgoing, almost to the point of absurdity. If you need help, he’ll do his best to make it happen, and if there’s something bothering you, he’ll be sure to listen to your every word. In a nutshell, making other people happy is his greatest joy in life. He also realizes this through his music; his favorite part of playing the trumpet is seeing other people smile when they hear it.

However, he is quite naïve and also somewhat gullible. If you tell him something that sounds plausible, with a straight face, he’s likely to believe you. He also tends to jump to conclusions quickly, before getting a full explanation. He’s childish in the way that he still enjoys children’s games, exploring new surroundings, and occasionally sees things in a child’s point of view.

One of his biggest faults is his inability to articulate his feelings, or even identify them at all. For example, if he is sad or depressed, it might take him awhile to realize that he is, or why he feels that way. Or if he likes someone, in a romantic way, he won’t know how to handle himself, and might act strangely around that person without knowing why.

Ironically, he’s actually quite good at picking up on other people’s thoughts and feelings. He usually doesn’t know how to react or remedy the situation, but he knows. If he can’t help that person, especially if he feels close to them, he falls into a bit of a depression.

Country of Origin: Italy
Musical Instrument: Trumpet
Third-Person (Log) Sample: “Woah…”

Enter one Kazuki Hihara, standing in front of a building of which the likes he had never seen before. It seemed as though it was entirely made of windows, and stretched tall, like the spires of a cathedral. How did it stay together? If one of the panes of glass broke, would the whole thing fall apart? He had the sudden, irresponsible urge to throw a rock at it and see what would happen. If the whole thing did collapse, he probably couldn’t run away fast enough to avoid being brutally murdered by the owner.

This was way too elegant for him. He felt under-dressed. But the master of the estate had invited him personally, so, maybe it wouldn’t be a problem?

His surroundings were beautiful, and he felt like he was in a completely different world, even though he was still in his mother country. The town that he had passed through was much nicer than the one he had grown up in, the beaches had pure white sand that he didn’t even know existed, and the garden outside of the hotel had statues in it that he only thought existed in places like the Vatican City. And he had been chosen to stay here, only because of his talent with the trumpet?

It was bizarre. It was unreal.

It was awesome.

First-Person Sample:

Who are you? I’m Kazuki Hihara!

Is there a God? Of course there is. I’ve been told that God is the source of all the joy in the world, so when people are happy, it proves that God exists!

What is knowledge? I think it’s something that you learn in books, but I don’t know. Whatever it is, I can’t say that I have a lot of it.

What is truth? The truth is not lying, and being responsible for your actions. I think it might be a little different for each person, though.

Is there such a thing as "good and evil"? Well, yeah. I’m not sure why, but you know when you see it. Like when you see some people being mean to another person, you feel, “Oh, that’s not nice,” and it makes you feel bad. Or when you do something wrong, and you know it was evil, and it makes you feel heavy. While on the other hand, when you’re good to other people, it makes you feel lighter!

Also: For some reason my link to the wiki up there didn’t work, so here it is again!

♦ Character Info
Character Name: Michiru Kaioh
Fandom: Sailor Moon
Gender: Female
Age: 17
Canon Background: Wiki article is here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Michiru_Kaioh
AU Background: Michiru was born to a Japanese/English father and an English mother. Her parents were very wealthy although not precisely elite. They had a home in London and a summer sea cottage. Mr. and Mrs. Kaioh raised Michiru to be a proper and respectful young lady, and Michiru found that she was very good at being just that. From a young age she showed quite a genuine interest in the violin as well as painting (usually ocean scenes) and her parents nurtured her talents until she blossomed into an accomplished young woman with dreams of becoming a great violinist. Her personal violin is something of great personal value. It is a Stradivarius her parents purchased for her which she named "Marine Cathédrale."

Michiru was homeschooled by a governess until the age of 11, when she politely asked her parents to send her to a public school for young ladies. Appalled but very doting on their daughter, the couple reluctantly agreed. Michiru had trouble at first fitting in with her peers, as they were often a lot more coarse and rough mannered than the children she was used to playing with, however she adapted very well and became quite a popular girl in her own right, if not as sociable a one as her parents would have preferred. Now, as a more mature woman, Michiru looks upon these experiences at public school fondly as the reason why she is so "worldly." Michiru has also studied abroad briefly in France.

Mr. and Mrs. Kaioh decided that at the age of 16 it was high time they started looking for suitable young men to try and pair Michiru with. Strangely, she has not taken to any of these gentlemen as a proper young lady should. She found a few friends in her gentlemen callers, but when any of them spoke of love to her or possible marriage prospects she turned a deaf ear. It seems Miss Michiru is uninterested in such things as should be natural for all young ladies her age.

Recently, Michiru has been attending a private school for accomplishd young ladies. When she recieved the letter from Albergo Chiaro she was very pleased, as it seemed the perfect place to continue her study of the violin. Her parents were amiable to the idea because they fervently hope she will become close to a young man during her experiences there. A wish that they have kept from Michiru, who would be disdainful if she knew.

Re: Application for Michiru 2/2
[info]closetd0rk
2008-12-06 01:17 am UTC (link)

Personality: Not a social person by nature, Michiru does her best to associate with her peers and fellows to please her parents, to whom Michiru is very devoted. Although she can come off as a bit snobby at first, she is very calm and polite, yet capable of very heated anger when someone crosses her. To those who see her, it is quite obvious that Michiru is a woman of extreme grace and sophistication. She holds herself well in both posture and confidence, although her confidence can be greatly shaken if someone criticizes her.

She is unfailingly gracious, and would consent to help someone in need without hesitation, although if there were something she had a previous obligation to do, she would not compensate. Michiru's first duty is always to herself and her learning, second to others. If she were to fall in love with someone, she would be unfailingly loyal and devoted to the object of her affections, she would be very obliging to this person, possibly even to the point of doing something against her personal morals. If it were something such as a simple crush, she would treat them as a friend, and probably tease them more than she would a normal person.

In friendship, Michiru is once again loyal and helpful, although less open and personal. Michiru rarely shares things about herself with people that she does not feel extremely close with. Except for her parents, there is no one Michiru feels she can speak truly openly with.
Country of Origin: England
Musical Instrument: The violin (She will take her own prized violin with her, instead of using one provided by the school.)
Third-Person (Log) Sample:
Smiling, and obviously very pleased with herself Michiru gazed up rapturously at the many window frames and expensive glass panes. It reeked of sophistication, as well as advanced taste, and Michiru had a strong feeling that she could belong here quite easily, if she wanted to. The strong barmy smell of the sea floated on the breeze, and she welcomed its familiar caresses. In the wind were memories of many summers on England's beaches, playing in the salty spray. The ocean was as much a part of her as the Stradivarius violin she held at her side, she would never have been able to live without either element.

Instead of going directly inside, Michriu turned back toward where the beaches were. She wanted to explore these first before becoming too comfortable. Besides, her mother had always stressed that it was important to make a grand entrance at any event. Michiru was no fool, she knew that if she arrived late, she would be noticed and gain attention in a way that would be impossible if she arrived en masse with the rest of the students.

The beach was lovely. With fine white sand that she could sift easily through her milky fingers, and crystal clear waters that reflected the bright morning sun. It was very different from the harsh beauty of England's coastal lands, it was almost exotic, and that appealed to this young lady. Yes, Michiru knew she would be able to call this place home.

First-Person Sample:

Who are you? I am Miss Michiru Kaioh, and who, may I ask are you?
Is there a God? I was raised to believe the God of my parents.
What is knowledge? Knowledge is something one can acquire, through hard work, study, or worldly experiences.
What is truth? Truth is the opposite of falsehood.
Is there such a thing as "good and evil"? Of course there is. Perhaps not all things are exactly black and white in this sense, but I know it is very evil and wicked to murder, and I know it is very gracious and good to give to charity.
