| ♫ // Premise, please ? |
This rpg is set during the mid-to-late 18th century, placing it near the end of the Scientific Revolution, a crucial time period in history. This was also the beginning of the Classical Music era, an extremely influential cultural revolution. The owner of the hotel, a man named Giuseppe Fiorentino, has found it to be an important time to educate the "young people" of the new generation. He has brought your characters here to study science, philosophy, and the fine arts. Signor Fiorentino provides room and board, food, and in his opinion, "the most rigorous academic course south of Paris". ♫ // Studying ? Do I really have to ? No, but your character is going to. Classes won't be the main focus of the RP (because we get enough of that in actual school) but your character will be attending them at least 3 times a week for 5 hours a day. Your basic courses are one science/math of your choice (physics, biology, algebra, etc.), a philosophy class, and a course in the musical instrument of your choice. Your character can also choose extra courses that will be available as time goes on. The science and music classes you choose will land you in a specific class with a number of students in the same course. The current course list can be found here. ♫ // So what's with the instruments ? Signor Fiorentino loves his music. He believes that everyone should be educated in some kind of musical art. He has met many a famous musician in his lifetime, and he wants all the young people to know the wonder that comes from learning to play an instrument. The instrument you choose will also determine which floor of the Albergo you'll be staying on. Here is a list of the instruments you can choose from, and their respective floors: Floor 1: Piano;; Floor 2: Cello/Harp;; Floor 3: Flute/Clarinet;; Floor 4: Guitar;; Floor 5: Violin/Viola;; Floor 6: Trumpet;; Floor 7: Penthouse (taken) Each floor has 50 rooms, so there is more than enough room for everyone invited. The current room roster can be found here. ♫ // Are we trapped here ? In a sense, yes. Once your character gets here, there's no getting out until they are deemed worthy of "graduating". There is no real way out except an express ferry that takes them back to mainland, and that is only at Signor Fiorentino's expicit request (i.e. you've dropped a character). However, there are no restrictions on where they go within the island, and there are certainly many interesting places to visit. ♫ // It's a glass hotel...In the 1700's ? Yes. :| ♫ // With SEVEN stories ? Hey, what's an RPG without a little mystery, huh!? ♫ // ...Okay, so what exactly is AU ? AU stands for "Alternate Universe", which is to say it's a different universe than your character is from, aka his or her OU, or "Original Universe". This rpg community's post gives a very useful, basic list of RP terms. (Thanks, google!) This RPG is AU-only. That means your character must come from the universe that we play in, which is to say, 18th-century Europe. It's up to you to think up a believable background for them that fits within this setting. You're encouraged to be as creative as you can with this, as long as your character's background doesn't alter their canon personality! ♫ // What if my character isn't from Europe ? You're allowed to tweak their history a bit, like have them born in a European country, to fit in better with the overall setting. However if you're willing, you could work a little harder and have them come directly from Edo-era Japan. This is discouraged, though, because it will be much more difficult for a Japanese person to adjust to the European culture being taught at the Albergo. ♫ // My character has (insert power here). Will they be able to use it ? Magical powers and ultra-strength are downplayed here. No doubt there are mysterious forces at work on the island, but there shouldn't be a bunch of people that are OVER NINE THOUSAAAND or ULTRA-HEAL PLZ running around the place. ♫ // How do the characters interact ? This RPG allows character interaction through first-person posts. Your characters can be chilling in the lobby, out on the town, or in class, etc. Of course, you should always specify where they are and what exactly they're doing; we don't want people being confused about where their characters are! We also mainly rely on first-person voice to convey our characters the best. You can also interact through logs, and should only post them in the logs community, Your character can also post announcements through the intercom in the main lobby (which has free access) and through the postal service. There is also a (brand new) community exclusively for news, announcements, and advertisements: ♫ // Does anything else happen here ? Of course! There will be events in the near future that affect the school, the hotel, and even the whole island! You'll have to stick around to see what kind of crazy secrets this island holds. ♫ // Where do we post ? ALL first-person or letter-style posts go to the MAIN COMMUNITY, All third-person logs go to Finally, all OOC-only posts go to ♫ // How does the postal service work ? Every morning and night, a postman goes through all the rooms delivering written letters from guest to guest. These are mainly exclusive to the people exchanging messages, but can possibly be intercepted (or in RP-terms, hacked) by other guests through charming or bribing the postman. All letter-style posts go in the main community, and can be sent to more than one person at a time. In a letter post, the subject should always be something like: "LETTER to: (name)", and tagged with *letter so that players don't get confused about how they're communicating. ♫ // I'm new to LJ RPing . . . That's totally fine! We're really laid-back here, and newbies are welcome to join! We don't all have to be super-experienced. We'll learn from each other! ♥ ♫ // Who is on the Seventh Floor ? That would be Lucretia de la Costa, a young heiress to the de la Costa family fortune. Before Fiorentino arrived, they used to own the island. However, seven years ago the entire family disappeared from their summer villa, leaving only Lucretia behind. Since then, she has stayed in the penthouse suite of the Albergo. She dislikes leaving her room, and is rarely seen by anyone other than the manager and Signor Fiorentino. Lucretia enjoys causing trouble, and the arrival of new students has reawakened her mischievous nature. She'll be introducing herself soon enough...and that's not a good thing. |
